We are back here to talk more about our experience with BreatheSmart, the asthma management app from Cohero Health. Check out my last post here for an introduction on this amazing tool that helps kids and teens manage their own asthma and medication usage.
We’ve not used the app and sensors excessively since we got it, which is a good thing, because it means Lark’s asthma is fairly well controlled right now (check on us in about a month though when all of her worst triggers pop up again!). But we have used it a few times and it’s really cool to see her medication use logged in the app in real time!
The setup of the app and HeroTracker sensors is so easy! It pairs to your smart phone in minutes! I have it set up on my phone currently, since Lark doesn’t yet have a phone, but I’ve showed it to her and how it all works to familiarize her with the idea. We are at the start of a transitional period with her when it comes to medication and her need to become responsible for it in the near future. As she gets older, there will be more and more instances where we aren’t always around.
The app is a great visual for her and will be such a helpful tool and resource for her as we navigate the whole process together. We work very closely with her school nurse and teachers to make sure her health is under careful watch and I think the BreatheSmart app and HeroTracker sensors would be helpful tools for them as well. Specifically, it’s a great tool to stay on track with her maintenance medications because now that we aren’t on them daily, except in certain seasons, it’s often easy to miss a dose. The built- in reminders of the app are very helpful, especially for us moms when we get busier during school season, and when Lark’s asthma gets worse in the fall and winter seasons.
I would highly suggest this system to any parent of an asthmatic child or teen. It’s important to empower our kids to take on their disease with confidence and shed some of the fear and judgment surrounding it. I look forward to updating you again soon on our usage and how it’s helped set us up for success in the future! You can visit http://coherohealth.com/BreatheSmart for more information.
