How far along? 16 weeks
Total weight gain/loss? Same as last week…still about 3 pounds down from my starting weight…and it’s not for lacking of eating, that’s for sure…I’ve developed a MAYJAH sweet tooth over the last month or so…not to mention my love for taco bell burritos.
Maternity clothes? Err’day…
Stretch marks?
None yet, at least none from the bean, that is. And still greasing myself up every morning to TRY and help…
Sleep? I think I may be developing some form of narcolepsy, because I just want to fall asleep everywhere.
Best moment last week? Bringing home our new car!! The Maliboo-yah
Movement? Little twinges here and there. Mostly in the late afternoon.
Food cravings? Taco bell, cupcakes, cookies, taco bell, milk, taco bell
Symptoms?
Stuffy nose, just like every day…stabbing groin pains, just like every day…tiny bits of nausea on occasion. Still have some food aversions also.
Gender? No idea! But we will find out April 23…assuming baby bean cooperates!
Labor signs? Nope.
Belly button in/out? In.
What I miss:
Still Coke and Moscato…no surprise there. Same old, same old…
What I am looking forward to: Finding out gender…still…
Milestones:
The bean is the size of an avocado now (did someone say beans and guacamole?! taco bell?!) and just about 5 inches! Yo…can you hear me in there?! Because my pregnancy updates say you can now!! Good job growing those ear bones, little bean!

No, not Brennan. Brennan is 15 and knows his way home, at least…we think he does…
Your kitty brother, Albert Edward Cat. When Brennan left for school, he must not have pulled the door shut tight, which happens if you’re not careful about it, so we have to double check when we leave. I woke up, took a shower, got dressed, went in the kitchen to grab something and noticed the front door was wide open…and Albert, the curious little shit…was GONE!
Your mama was FREAKING out! She looked nuts. I was a crazy pregnant lady (in a tank top, in 30 degrees, no less) running around outside calling for him. He’s snuck out before, but never goes far, and will generally come when you call out for him. Not today.
I’m sure you heard me calling some strange names, because, well, mama has a nickname habit. So most of the time he answers to ridiculous things like “Mr. Kitten Man,” “Albie kitten,” and other such nonsense. So imagine your prego mama, well you can imagine most of it, since you were there, but try to picture a crazed woman in a tank top screaming out these nonsense names. The neighbors were likely simultaneous calling the nearest insane asylum.
I woke your dad up in a frenzy, and he got in his truck and drove down the street to search for him. Meanwhile, sweet sister Roxy Toodles (more ridiculous cat names), sat patiently inside. She never set paw out there once. Like a good little princess. Both your dad and I were sure he disappeared into the trees, never to return. Your dad abruptly stopped two doors down from us, and there he was, huddled into a tiny corner by the neighbor’s front door, meowing pathetically. I told him I was glad I found him, but that he was an idiot! And that he needs to remember how good he has it and not go running off out of curiosity!! All of the front doors in our neighborhood (townhouses) look the same, so the cat with no survival skills just finds the nearest door, usually not ours, but somehow couldn’t bring himself to walk two doors back while his mama cried and called his name.
Anyhoo, your mama recovered from the panic, and all was right in the world. So…sorry for jostling you around this morning, running frantically across lawns…but I’d be absolutely devastated if my kitty went missing!
Mama’s goal in life is turn you into a crazy cat person also, despite your father’s wishes.
We love cats around here.
Not much else happening lately, except that I can feel your tiny movements more often now, and it’s pretty cool. A strange feeling, but still cool…I hope you’re practicing your best tiny dancer moves. I’ve given you lots of practice sessions, with as much as I’ve been listening to Destiny’s Child classics…
…you may come out yelling, “I don’t think you’re ready for this jelly!”

Upset Stomach
Little girls aren’t always sweet. Extreme nausea means you are having a daughter.
I had been feeling sick all day, every day for weeks! I’m getting relief now, but it was miserable for SO long!
Verdict: GIRL!
Dearest little bean,
Your mama feels SO busy the last week or so.
We got us a new car! That’s been part of my busy-ness. It took some work to get the deal going and finished, but we got it! And you’ll love it, I’m sure. I get to pick it up tonight with dad.
Yesterday was 15 weeks and we had a doctor appointment…just routine…it was with a male doctor this time, Dr. Minnec. He was nice, until he accused me of “dictating my own medical care,” like I was some defiant moron. Not gonna lie, I was pissed. Then he busted out laughing because he was being sarcastic the entire time. So then I liked him. While it wasn’t funny when he was saying it, it was funny after the fact and I can definitely appreciate as sarcastic personality. He went to check your heartbeat and said, “don’t be alarmed if I don’t find it right away.” But with one touch of the wand, there you were! WOOSH.. WOOSH.. WOOSH.. WOOSH.. I asked him your heart rate, you know, to keep my gender prediction study up-to-date, he said 152 and asked me what a fast heart rate meant. I told him girl, but we’re obviously not buying anything pink yet. Speaking of gender, we get to see you and find out on April 23! It can’t come soon enough! They you won’t have to be “it ” anymore!
I bought you some clothes last week. The first ones! Nothing super spectacular, just some onesies. But mama is obsessed with hot air balloons and found these cute mint and gray onesies at Target and just couldn’t resist them! I can’t really resist chevron or tiny stars either!
I can’t to wrap you up in them and snuggle your tiny, sweet bod!

How far along? 15 weeks
Total weight gain/loss? I’ve been fluctuating quite a bit again, but still down 2-3 lbs from my original weight.
Maternity clothes? Yup. So comfy. But now I need to buy new bras and the size I need currently is not making me very happy. Especially knowing that these fun bags are just going to get bigger. Yikes!
Stretch marks?

Symptoms? Still producing large amounts of phlegm and snot, so pretty. Nausea is nearly gone, except for when I get too hungry and except for the last two days when I’m feeling those food aversions again…

The bean is the size of an orange now and just about 4 inches! I’m hearing that baby bean will respond to light if you shine a flashlight on my abdomen…interesting.

For as long as I can remember, I’ve wanted a daughter. I’d imagine most women desire a daughter to some extent. The bond between mothers and daughters, and women in general is a beautiful thing. A friend, a confidant, someone who understands just what you’re feeling. Not to mention bows, ruffles and pink and purple things!
But a son…a sweet and handsome boy. Hopefully just like his dad, but still a mama’s boy. Someone to love their mother, and protect her in times of need. Dirt and trucks and lots of blue tiny things!
From day one, I have thought I was having a boy. No questions asked. I’m sure, in part, to try and convince myself in the event that a girl is not in the cards for this pregnancy. Not that I’d love a boy any less, but I’ve just…always wanted a girl first…(because yes, there will likely be at least one more)
Some people think I’m wrong or selfish for having these feelings. But most women I’ve known have had a preference for which gender they prefer. It just is what it is. I think the obvious statement of, “A healthy baby is all I desire” is an obvious one. No one wishes for their child to have any type of health issue. But I think, in general, you just tend to sway toward pink or blue. But you love either, just the same.
For me, it’s been blue. I can’t bring myself to look at girl things. Whether it’s me preparing myself for the chance of not having a girl, or whether it was a legitimate feeling of boy, I do not know.
In the last week or so, I’ve been completely confused, with STRONG feelings of girl sneaking in. So I’m letting myself enjoy shopping for either gender at the moment, because in five (or so) short (but so long) weeks, we will know for certain! And then we will be shopping for one side only, that is, unless the doctor is wrong and baby comes out opposite of what you thought, like me.
I’ve been reading up on old wives tales for gender prediction for fun. But it really doesn’t sway completely one way or the other. Granted, they pretty much mean nothing, but it’s still fun to guess!
Everyone around me says they “feel” girl. Except for 2 people. And I can’t really say what I feel anymore. We have top name contenders for both sexes. And are excited at the prospect of either.

It’s been a little crazy over here! Mama’s been car shopping for the last few days and we are trying to find a good car for both you and I. I thought I had found one, but there were some complications with it that we are trying to get figured out. I’ve been mucho stressed about finances, and this whole situation isn’t helping. Your dad is doing his best at trying to get me to calm down. So I’m sorry if you hear some bad words out of my mouth lately, I’m just upset!
The weekend was good. I got lots of sleep, which was helpful, but I’m still SO tired!
Saturday consisted of car shopping and test driving and joking with the salesman about using the trunk cargo net as a baby carrier…I know, probably not really that funny, but you’ll find that your dad and I are very sarcastic people. Then we went to see Oz, The Great and Powerful. It was really good! But your mama LOVES the original Wizard of Oz, so it’s no surprise I loved it as much as I did. The last few days I’ve had some WEIRD belly feelings, right around your area. The first time I felt it was during Oz, and a few times since…is it you?! Most say it’s too early to feel you, but it’s a feeling I’m not used to. And while at first I thought it was rooty-toot-toots, I’ve now felt it enough times to distinguish it from gas. It kind of feels like tiny muscle spasms. Maybe it is, I don’t know…but I’m hoping it’s you and you were letting me know that you love Oz!
Sunday I worked on some projects in the morning, got some rest midday, then went and had corned beef and cabbage with dad and Brennan for St. Patty’s Day…you’re of Irish blood, you know…and your mama will likely remind you of that for the rest of your life, because, well…she thinks it’s cool to be Irish. Then we ventured into Babies R Us together (totally your dad’s idea, but he’ll probably deny it) and we had fun. We looked at and played with strollers and car seats and may have picked a winner for you. Satisfying dad’s requirement of the color orange and my requirement of being gender neutral and cute, of course. It has owls! We love us some owls! Brennan got into it, which was so amazing! I was sure he’d be annoyed about shopping the baby store, but he seemed to enjoy it! He even had to show ME how to unattach the car seat from the stroller…I’m glad someone knows what they’re doing!
Today was Monday, and well, you’ll grow up to learn that Monday is never really that exciting for a working adult. And trying to figure out daycare and car purchasing woes didn’t make it much better.
We have to go see the doctor on Wednesday, at 15 weeks. And I’m hoping they’ll schedule my next ultrasound then and soon we can find out if you’re pink or blue! I can’t wait for you to no longer be an “it.”
I’m doing my best to calm myself for both our sake, so I hope you can bear with me during these times of change. I just want the best for you…that’s all.

The Stress Test
A child tends to be of the same sex as the parent who is less stressed at the time of conception.
James is WAY less stressed than I am…always.
Verdict: BOY!
When it comes to babies, there is literally SO MUCH stuff to choose from. I’m beyond overwhelmed and our measly registry (a bit premature) has duplicates of everything right now because I have no idea what to pick! Strollers included…
Originally, I was in lust with this Graco Modes Click Connect stroller in Onyx.

Purty, ain’t she?! And it all sorts of “clicky” features that allow for changing seat direction and it also folds down into a pram-like arrangement. Not to mention, it’s black and gray…duh! My favorite! But when I moseyed into Babies R Us last week, I pushed this sucker around for a minute (with infant car seat attached, mind you) not far, because it was attached to a wall, and it seemed so BIG! A tad of the heavy side also. It also does not have the option to buy with an infant car seat, unless you purchase it in a pattern I really don’t care for. But all Graco Click Connect infant car seats should work, I think, it just may not match. But with black, anything goes! I was immediately turned off, but after talking to a friend who has a similar Graco system, I’m back to it. She loves hers and said it’s a great system. I need to give it another look.
The second one I loved, was this Britax B-Agile stroller in Red (another favorite color!). I pushed this one around the store too (it wasn’t attached so I could go farther), and let me tell you, this baby corners like it’s on rails (Vivian would approve!). The three-wheel design is awesome. And it’s much smaller and more lightweight. The cons? It doesn’t have a very big cargo basket and it’s lacking cup holders, which I could end up hating! But other than that, it’s amazing. And also has the option to buy with a matching infant car seat.

My third choice, which I’ve never seen in person, is the Peg Perego Pliko Four Stroller in Pois Grey, which also comes as a travel system. They didn’t have it in the store when I was there, so I know nothing about shape/size, except that Peg Perego, like Graco and Britax, is a reputable brand. And it’s gray dots, so you know I’m in! But it’s probably a good thing that I haven’t seen it in person, because this sucker is the most expensive! The matching infant car seat is sold separately and the entire system comes in at around $600!! Based on that, it’s probably not really a contender.

And speaking of expensive, this probably means the Bugaboo is out too…where’s the lotto winnings when you need them?
Any opinions, suggestions, other brands/models to look at…throw them at me! James says to pick what I like, but being that we’re both artists and both fairly vain, I’m sure he’ll have an opinion once I pick one out 😉
